Oh Death, Where Is Thy Dance Card?

Published on: August 16, 2013August 16, 2013 by Missy O'Brien 3 Comments

For most women, a poignant moment in their wedding is the traditional father-daughter dance. Or so I hear. I’ve also heard that there are in fact people out there who don’t live and breathe Guilt, who don’t lie awake at night running through a rosary of remembered Mea Culpas and...

My Kingdom for an Outlet

Published on: July 23, 2013July 23, 2013 by Missy O'Brien 6 Comments

MIRTH has been on vacation.  It wasn’t a mirthless one, mind you;  I went back east to spend a few weeks with my fine fun family. Urging me  years ago to start writing, my mother said, “I know you’re just waiting until we’re all dead so you can tell...

I Don’t Blame Bigfoot, & Other Anniversary Reflections

Published on: June 29, 2013June 29, 2013 by Missy O'Brien 4 Comments

My 29th wedding anniversary approaches apace, and I must take some space to thank Husband for nearly three decades of devotion.   I must also thank the gods of chaos and fate for arranging my marriage.  I certainly had very little to do with it – I was young and...

The Search for Mirth

Gratitude is easy — you’re upright with a pulse and still remember where you live? Grateful, and done!

Mirth is hard — one look at the headlines can rob you of the will to live. Why bother with pointless exercises like brushing your teeth or breathing?

And so I search for Mirth — a capricious mistress, whimsical and perverse and untidy and contrary. But that’s what makes her interesting.

While misery loves company, Mirth enjoys it even more. Thanks for joining me!

I don't know how the hell to spell frankincense, either. It's a terrible title for a blog. Just subscribe to Mirth or bookmark the site, and you'll never have to fumble-finger it again.
